Ghana, mid 20th Century AD

Wood, kaolin, black pigment, beads, string.  Carved wood figural grouping of the Queen Mother, seated on a separately carved throne stool, nursing child. Carved of light colored wood with remains of kaolin and black paint.  Reportedly contained in shrines, and serve as protective figures. Size 18-1/4 inches H.  Provenance: Ex Collection of Lynn Rosen New York, 1980s
