Late Period, Ca. 715 to 500 BC.

A blue faience glaze depiction of a standing baboon headed Son of Horus; mummiform depicted in profile.

The four sons are Imsety, Hapy, Duamutef, and Qebehsenuef. When depicted as plaques, these deities carried specific symbolism related to the afterlife and protection of the deceased.

The Baboon-headed son is called Hapy and he is protected the lungs.
Symbolism: Hapy is associated with the north and is linked to fertility and the inundation of the Nile. In the context of the deceased, Hapy's role is to ensure a person's breath and vitality for the afterlife.

Two loop holes for sewing into the bandages. A protection talisman. intact.

Size 2-7/8 in L. + Custom mounted on black presentation mount. Intact

Provenance: A.A.W. Joukiwsky Esq. acquired from Spink & Son Ltd London, Aug 1968 with original invoice accompanying the amulet.
