Peru, Central Coast, Late Intermediate Period, Circa 1100 to 1550 AD.

Fine tightly woven, multicolor textile depicting ten standing warriors, each wearing elaborate, stepped headdress, holding two clubs or spears and wearing geometric pattern ponchos. Stylized fish on each side of the headdress, each figure is divided by a wave pattern border. A few very minor stains and slight tattering to bottom panel, missing lower border.   Size: 71 ”L. x 4-1/2”W. Frame is 82" x 12-1/2".
Overall excellent condition. Custom sewn to a cloth backing and mounted on a wooden stretcher, custom framed and matte under glass. A beautiful, high quality example.
Provenance: Private NYC physicians collection. Estate collection of Miss Kate Kemper, London, acquired 1950s.
