Peru, South Coast, Circa 200 to 600 A.D.

Mantles, tunics and fragments made of tie-dyed geometric units of fabric make up this rectangular panel; composed of approximately thirty-eight individual squares sewn to form one panel, overall rows of stepped-diamond patterns and combinations of geometric elements. Several repairs and restorations, and a few scattered losses.
Size: 33-3/4 inches H x 54 inches L. Professionally sewn to a cloth backing and mounted on a wooden stretcher. Framed in a custom lucite box frame.
Provenance: NYC private collection, acquired from Edward H. Merrin Gallery, NYC., early 1970s.
